Action Groups Update - December 2025
Growing Communities Action Group
More volunteers are now helping out at the gardening sessions. As winter slows plant growth, the Group meets for gardening only once a fortnight until February or later in the year. In the shrubby leg of the ‘L’ shaped bed behind the Library on Chapel Street, two 2 metre diameter patches had been cleared ready for planting the two walnut trees ordered for delivery and planting in January.
Transport and Active Travel Action Group
Six people attended the monthly Group meeting in early December. One of the items raised was the meeting with Northumberland County Council (NCC) Transport Officers, where there were discussions about increasing the use of the cargo bike and issues around the LCWIP (Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan). We also discussed the issue of the new Academy and the lack of information around an Active Travel Plan. NCC officers agreed to raise this at a senior level.
Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group
Algae monitoring in the Tweed Estuary continues but is reduced to once every two months during the winter. The talk that Elaine gave to Priory Park Primary School went well, as did the follow-up ‘algae art’ session with Jane (details here).
Warm Homes Action Group
Continuing with the home energy information sessions at every Repair Café.
Zero Waste Hub Action Group
Repair Café at the end of November was well attended despite the wet weather.
Tool Library: We have now prepared 3 reels, which are on our Facebook page, showing what borrowers are doing with the tools they borrow. Pursuing ideas for Tool Library volunteer recruitment, whether it be people with a knowledge of tools and what they can be used for, or those with admin skills.
