Call on Mayor for stronger climate action

Greener Berwick have written to Kim McGuinness, North East Regional Mayor, asking her to stand up for stronger local action on climate change – by supporting calls for the government to give councils the power, funding and legal backing they need to act.

The call comes ahead of a new national climate plan, which the government is due to publish later this year. Local authorities are uniquely placed to deliver real change - from cutting emissions through better transport and home insulation, to boosting local renewable energy and preparing for climate impacts. Therefore, it is important that more is done to empower local leaders.
