Greener Berwick Action Group Updates

Transport and Active Travel Action Group

Work on promoting cycling and public transport continues. A meeting has been set up to discuss timetables on bus shelters.

Growing Communities Action Group

Work on the raised beds continues. Some new volunteers are coming, helped by promoting where the Group will be on any particular Friday via Mailchimp.

Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group

Algae and nitrate monitoring continues. There is to be a free WADER Citizen Science Workshop in conjunction with the Environment Agency & Coquet River Action Group (CRAG) at Lowick Village Hall on 9th October at 10 am.

Warm Homes Action Group

Home energy information stall held at the recent Repair Café was busy.

Zero Waste Hub Action Group

Repair Café - August numbers were up again from the last couple of months, thanks to our Tool Sharpening Repairer being able to attend. We continue to try and recruit other Tool Sharpeners. We attended a Tool Sharpening session at Duns Repair Cafe, run by a member of Duns Men’s Shed, who offered to run a similar workshop in Berwick in the future if that fitted in with our plans. Cakes in the cafe are supplied by Northern Soul Kitchen, and a volunteer from the RC Team.

Tool Library - Members of the TL "team" attended the premises where our TL is currently held (North Northumberland Voluntary Centre in Tweed St.). to view the stock of tools and learn how the system works. More volunteers are wanted to deal with the booking website (myTurn), and maintenance of the tools, together with more members. A meeting is to be set up to discuss these issues with the TL “team”.

We continue to work to identity other premises where together we can hold the RC, the TL, and gardening group tools all in same place, rather than in various venues as is the situation at the moment. Funding needed for this venture.
